Freshman (2021-2022): Murray had a monster freshman year for the Bucs, earning Southern Conference Player of the Year and Third Team NJCAA All-American honors in the process. She led the Bucs in both scoring and rebounding, putting up 14.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, while starting all 27 contests as a rookie. She scored in double figures 21 times and went over the 20 point mark six times last season. She had seven double-doubles on the year including back to back efforts which earned her FCSAA Player of the Week accolades when she went for a career high 26 points and 10 rebounds against Hillsborough and backed that up with 23 points and a career high 15 rebounds in a blowout win over Indian River.

High School: Murray earned a pair of letters at Tampa Bay Tech and Winter Haven High School, leading TBT to a State Championship during the 2019-2020 season.

Personal: Born February 11, 2003, she is the daughter of Lakwanda and Jerome Murray. She has three brothers, Jacobi, Jordan, and Jerome.

Bucs Tripped Up By Titans

The #18 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers squared off with the #13 Eastern Florida State Titans in an early season Top 20 matchup Friday afternoon in Gainesville. Jayla Murray poured in a game high 23 points for the Bucs, but outside of Murray's effort, FSW shot just 27% from the floor, dropping a 74-54 decision to fall to 4-2 on the year.

Bucs Earn Early Season Statement Win

To say the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers felt slighted when they weren't announced as part of the preseason NJCAA Top 25 Rankings may be a bit of an understatement. The Bucs certainly made their case to be part of the next rankings on Saturday, holding #2 Shelton State to just 28% shooting in a 58-48 victory, the highest ranked opponent the FSW program has ever defeated.
