he #11 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers offense got off to a hot start Thursday night in their FCSAA State Tournament matchup with Northwest Florida State, scoring four runs in the 1st inning, but they went cold from there as the Raiders scored nine unanswered in the final eight innings for a 12-4 victory to send the Bucs to the elimination bracket starting on Friday.

Consistency is key in team sports and consistent is what the #15 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were this week in their three game series against the South Florida State Panthers.  FSW won the opener 5-2 on Wednesday before posting a 5-1 win Friday to clinch the series and did the same once again on Saturday at home at City of Palms Park, winning 5-1 behind a solid effort on the mound from Alex Ayala and Riley Skeen to sweep the series and remain in control of their own destiny atop the Suncoast Conference standings.

Jordan Campbell hadn't had an at bat in three weeks for the #15 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers before drawing the start against ASA Miami on Saturday.  You would have never known it.  Campbell went 3-4 with a homer, a triple, and six RBIs, missing the cycle by just a double as the Bucs blew out the Silver Storm 20-8 to improve to 29-10 on the year.

Alex Ayala is locked in.  Friday the Florida SouthWestern State freshman had his start moved up one day for a key Suncoast Conference game against #16 State College of Florida, and he delivered. Ayala threw a career high 7 1/3 innings and allowed just three hits and one run while striking out a career best 11 to lead FSW to a 5-1 win over the Manatees to  not only win the series, but also to give FSW a two game lead atop the conference standings at the end of the first round of league play.

Bucs Survive Late Scare to Even Series with Manatees

The #15 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers led comfortably for most of Wednesday afternoon's game against #16 State College of Florida, taking an early 4-1 lead and extending it to 8-2 midway through the game.  But that comfort went out the window in a wild 9th inning as the Manatees pushed four runs across and had the tying run just 90 feet away until Antonio Knowles came up with the biggest strikeout of the year for the Bucs to finish off an 8-7 win to even up the two frontrunners Suncoast Conference series at a game apiece.

The #17 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers had their seven game win streak come to an end Friday afternoon in Clearwater as a misplayed fly ball in the Bucs outfield followed by a line drive single to the right center field gap by St. Petersburg broke a 3-3 tie and walked FSW off with two outs in the bottom of the 9th in game two of the three game set.

The luck of the Irish was with the #17 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers on St. Patrick's Day Wednesday as the Bucs scored seven in the first two innings and then exploded for 10 in the 5th to blowout the visiting St. Petersburg Titans 18-2 in a run rule to begin the two teams three game Suncoast Conference series.

Bucs Hang On For Rollercoaster Win Over Panthers

Things couldn't have turned from 1 to 100 quicker Monday night than they did for the #17 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers as they took on the South Florida State Panthers in the final game of a three game Suncoast Conference series between the two. After dominating the first 5 1/2 innings of play and building up a 9-0 lead, the Bucs watched as South Florida State scored 11 in the bottom of the 6th to take an 11-9 lead. FSW answered right back with three in the 7th to retake the lead and with victory in their grasp in the 9th, the Panthers scored to send the game to extra innings. In the extra frame, the Bucs scored two and Marc Davis came out of the bullpen to blow away the Panthers to finally seal a 14-12 win to give the Bucs the three game conference sweep against South Florida State.

Saturday, the #20 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings against the Hillsborough Hawks in the opening game of a three game Suncoast Conference set before the skies opened and forced the suspension of the contest.  Tuesday the Bucs got a chance to finish it off, scoring four times in the 5th inning to cushion their lead before closing out the Hawks 7-2 to clinch their second straight series win to open conference play.

Bucs Grab Early Lead Before Being Washed Out by Mother Nature

The #20 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers and the Hillsborough Hawks hooked up Saturday afternoon at City of Palms Park for the first of a three game Suncoast Conference series between the two.  Neither team would win on this day though as after FSW jumped ahead 2-0 early on, the skies opened and the game was suspended with the Bucs leading 2-0 in the top of the 3rd inning.  The game will resume Tuesday at 2:00 PM in Downtown Fort Myers.

Super Sunday Not Such For FSW Bucs

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers didn't have quite the same luck the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had on Super Bowl Sunday.  Continuing game three of their four game series with the #3 Chipola Indians, the Bucs came back with three runs in the 9th to send the game to extra innings and plated two in the top of the 12th to come within inches of victory, but the Indians hit a walk off, three run home run in the bottom of the inning to take game three 12-11. In the series finale, the Bucs battled, but couldn't overcome a powerful Chipola lineup which put up crooked numbers in four of six offensive frames to win game four 14-8 and sweep the four game set 4-0.

Fast Start Leads FSW Past Pasco

For the second straight day, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got off to a hot start on Sunday, but different than Saturday's result, this afternoon they were able to hold on, winning a 9-6 decision over Pasco-Hernando to close out the 2021 Marissa Gusto Memorial Tournament with a 3-1 record.
