Bucs' International Student-Athletes Face Tough Decisions in Wake of COVID-19 Pandemic Of the 75 athletes that originate from outside of the United States between Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida Southwestern State College, a good amount are stuck in Fort Myers in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ellis Earns All State Honors After leading the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers to a 29-2 record and a #1 National Ranking for the final six weeks of the season, FSW sophomore guard has been named an All-State selection by the FCSAA.
NJCAA Cancels Remainder of 2020 Winter & Spring Sport Seasons After careful thought and consideration, the NJCAA has decided to cancel the rest of the 2020 Athletics season due to the rapidly changing situation concerning COVID-19. The cancellation effects the Florida SouthWestern State Men’s & Women’s Basketball teams as well as the Bucs’ Baseball and Softball squads.
Bucs Draw 6 Seed For National Tournament, Headed to Hutch For Third Straight Year Florida SouthWestern State has only had a Men’s Basketball program for four seasons. Monday, the Buccaneers learned that for the third time in those four seasons, they would be headed back to the NJCAA National Tournament as in the organization’s Selection Show, FSW was named as the #6 seed for next week’s tournament, drawing a first round bye before taking on the winner of the Colby/Monroe first round game, in the second round Wednesday, March 18th at 9 PM (EST).
Bucs Stunned in Region VIII Quarters The #1 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were stunned in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Region VIII Tournament on Wednesday, scoring a season low 68 points and shooting under 40% from the field for just the second time all season in a 75-68 defeat at the hands of Gulf Coast State. FSW's fate will now be in the hands of the NJCAA's at-large committee which will be announced Monday at 1 PM.
