FORT MYERS, Fla.- Cris Walley launched a pair of home runs to lead a 13 run onslaught from the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Saturday afternoon at Bucs Park in Fort Myers as FSW run ruled the visiting Andrew Fighting Tigers 13-1 to complete a three game non-conference sweep on the weekend.
The Bucs wasted little time in getting the scoring going with rain drops falling down on Buccaneers Park at first pitch as the first four hitters in the bottom of the 2nd reached base and pushed a run across to give FSW a quick 1-0 lead. Later in the frame Bishop Quarles shot an RBI single back up the middle to make it 2-0 and two pitches later Jonah St. Antoine missed a three run home run by inches, settling for a two run triple off the top of the right field wall to double the lead to 4-0. An Andrew error allowed the Bucs fifth run of the inning to score and extended the inning for FSW and the Bucs made them pay as Cris Walley drilled a two run home run to dead center to make it 7-0 FSW at the end of two.
Anthony Wilkie finished struck out the side in the 3rd to close out his first start with the Bucs and FSW was right back on the offensive in the bottom half of the inning.
Andrew gifted the Bucs their first three runs of the 3rd on a wild pitch and an error to make it 10-0 and with one on and one out Walley unloaded on his second two run shot of the day, deep and out to right to blow it open to 12-0 Bucs after three.
The Tigers cracked the scoreboard for the first time in the 5th, but the Bucs quickly answered as Evan Taveras smashed his first homer as a Buc out to center in the bottom of the inning to push it to a 13-1 game after five.
Judd Hildreth threw a scoreless 6th for the Bucs and Parker Burgess induced a double play ball to close out the 7th and wrap up a 13-1 run rule win for FSW to complete the sweep of the Tigers.
Walley led the Bucs offense in the breakout, going 2-4 with a pair of home runs and 4 RBIs while Nick April-Gath finished with 3 hits behind him in the lineup.
Wilkie earned his first win of the year on the mound for the Bucs with a sparkling three innings of work, allowing just one hit while striking out 4.
FSW sweeps the series to improve to 6-0 on the year while Andrew heads back to Georgia at 1-4.
The Bucs will have the week off before heading North to the Panhandle to take part in the Chipola Tournament where they will take on the 7-0 Indians Friday afternoon, #4 Walters State on Saturday, before finishing up the weekend with a pair of contests against Columbia State.
