Bucs Drop First Game of 2026
The #3 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers were knocked off for the first time in 2026 on Friday, dropping a 4-3 battle to Region VIII rival Chipola to fall to 6-1 on the year.
MARIANNA, Fla.- The #3 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers were knocked off for the first time in 2026 on Friday, dropping a 4-3 battle to Region VIII rival Chipola to fall to 6-1 on the year.
Things didn't get off to the best start for the Bucs as they went down in order in the top of the 1st before the first three Chipola hitters reached in the bottom of the inning before a double play ball and strikeout limited the damage to just 1 as the Indians took an early 1-0 lead.
The Bucs had a chance to answer right away, loading the bases with one out in the top of the 2nd, but a foul out and a fly out to center ended the threat and kept Chipola in front 1-0.
FSW finally broke through in the 4th as Aiden Talarico ripped an RBI single and Robbie Demetree drove in a run with a groundout to put the Bucs ahead 2-1.
After a stellar four inning outing by starter Cole Greer, the Bucs went to the bullpen in the 5th and they provided little relief as Chipola got back to back two out knocks to retake the lead before a Bucs error added a third run to give the Indians a 4-2 lead at the end of four.
Demetree cracked a solo homer for the Bucs in the 6th to make it a one run game, but FSW couldn't mount a rally in the 7th and fell 4-3 for their first loss of the year.
Six different Bucs had hits in the game while Demetree had 2 of the Bucs 3 RBIs in the game. Greer fired 4 innings of one hit baseball while Elliot Sande suffered the loss out of the bullpen, yielding three runs on four hits in one inning of work to fall to 1-1 on the year.
The Bucs fall to 6-1 on the year with the loss while Chipola improves to 9-1.
FSW will be back in action on Saturday with a pair of contests, the first coming in a top five battle with #4 Walters State before the nightcap against Columbia State.
