MIAMI, Fla.- The #17 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers saw their 2026 season come to an end in the Miami Regional Saturday night, dropping an 8-2 decision to the Miami Dade Sharks to finish their campaign 33-17.
The Sharks got on the board first, taking advantage of a leadoff hit batter in the 2nd to score the game's first run without the benefit of a hit to take a 1-0 lead.
It remained a 1-0 game to the 4th when the Bucs drew even as Nick April-Gath was hit by a pitch and scored on an infield single from Jonah St. Antoine to knot the score at 1 apiece. The Bucs couldn't do anything else from there though, squandering a first and third, no out situation with three straight strikeouts to leave the runners stranded and keep the score 1-1 at the end of four.
With momentum flipped back onto the Miami Dade side, the Sharks started the 5th with three straight hits to load the bases and a pair of wild pitches allowed two runs to come into score to give Dade the lead back at 3-1 at the midway point of the contest.
Robbie Demetree cut the Sharks lead in half with one swing of the bat to lead off the bottom of the 5th, cranking the first pitch he saw out to the gap in left center to make it a 3-2 ballgame. The Bucs had a chance to do more damage later in the inning, putting the tying and go ahead run on base, but a pop out in foul territory ended the threat with two ducks on the pond as it remained a 3-2 game at the end of five.
Bucs reliever Anthony Wilkie kept the game right there, putting up zeros in the 6th and 7th frames, but the FSW offense couldn't get anything going as it stayed a one run game at 3-2 into the 8th.
For the second night in a row, things unraveled on the Bucs in the 8th. The Sharks began the inning with a solo home run and then a pair of doubles around a single put two more on the board to make it a 6-2 game. With two outs a pop up on the infield looked like it would end the inning, but it was dropped by the Bucs allowing another Miami Dade run to score to give the Sharks some insurance and a 7-2 lead.
The Bucs had a chance to answer, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but a ground ball on the infield ended the threat and kept the Sharks in front by five as the game went to the 9th.
Miami Dade added to their lead with a run in the top of the 9th to make it 8-2 and the Bucs had some traffic in their final at bats in the bottom of the 9th but managed to push just one across, stranding two more to make it nine on the night as they fell 8-3 to send the Sharks onto the FCSAA Final Four.
Tyler June, Keenan Jabeth, and Jonah St. Antoine each had two hits including a double in the loss for the Bucs. Parker Burgess suffered the loss on the mound, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings pitched to fall to 2-2 on the year.
The Bucs see their season come to an end at 33-17 while Miami Dade improves to 34-17 and punches their ticket to Tampa and the FCSAA Championship round.
