As a freshman, Florida SouthWestern's Keon Ellis had to bide his time, playing behind First Team All-Conference guards and eventual Power 5 signees in Charles Manning Jr. and Maddox Daniels.  His role changed significantly as a sophomore as he stepped into the limelight of being the Bucs' bonafide star and it was never more evident than in FSW's Suncoast Conference opener in 2020 when he brought us our #3 moment on our countdown of the Top 10 Moments in FSW Athletics in 2019-20, his record breaking 41 point performance against St. Petersburg.

Today we look at part three of our four part series on the Florida SouthWestern State Teams of the Decade, focusing today on the Bucs' Men's Basketball program.  The FSW Men's Basketball program has been nothing short of dominant in their brief history, going 115-15 overall and 46-2 in Suncoast Conference play in their four seasons, including three straight Conference Championships and three straight trips to the NJCAA National Tournament.

When the Florida SouthWestern Men's Basketball staff recruited Jermaine Marshall last year, the plan was clear, come play for the Bucs for a season and move on to the Division I level.  That plan was executed this season and finished on National Signing Day Wednesday as Marshall signed with MAC Champs Akron where he will have three years to play starting this fall.

After spending the season as one of the most highly sought after junior college players in the country, Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Keon Ellis has officially signed his National Letter of Intent with the Alabama Crimson Tide.  Ellis inked with the Tide Wednesday on National Signing Day, making him the fourth Buccaneer Men's Basketball player in the past two seasons to sign with a Power 5 squad and the third to sign to play in the SEC.

Keon Ellis Named Second Team NJCAA All-American

A season ago, Florida SouthWestern State’s Keon Ellis contributed to the Buccaneers as a reserve, playing behind future Division I stars Charles Manning Jr. and Maddox Daniels.  In 2019-2020, it was Ellis’ time to shine and he did just that and Monday, he was rewarded for his efforts as he was named a Second Team NJCAA All-American.

The Florida SouthWestern State Men's Basketball team saw their season come to a premature end this year because of COVID-19, but it wasn't before they were able to put together a number of record breaking performances.  The Bucs won their third straight Suncoast Conference Championship and went 29-1 in the regular season while spending the final six weeks of the year as the #1 ranked team in the NJCAA.

After leading the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers to a 29-2 record and a #1 National Ranking for the final six weeks of the season, FSW sophomore guard Keon Ellis has been named an All-State selection by the FCSAA.

Bucs Stunned in Region VIII Quarters

The #1 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were stunned in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Region VIII Tournament on Wednesday, scoring a season low 68 points and shooting under 40% from the field for just the second time all season in a 75-68 defeat at the hands of Gulf Coast State.  FSW's fate will now be in the hands of the NJCAA's at-large committee which will be announced Monday at 1 PM.

Suncoast All-Conference Teams Packed With Eight Bucs

After completing their third straight undefeated Suncoast Conference season, the league’s All-Conference teams were expectedly loaded with Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers when released on Thursday. Eight Bucs were named All-Conference including FSW’s third straight conference Player of the Year, Keon Ellis, while Head Coach Eric Murphy was named the conference’s Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Bucs Grind Out Sophomore Night Win Over Manatees

The #1 Florida SouthWestern State Men's Basketball team hasn't been challenged much during their 20 game win streak heading into Wednesday night's Suncoast Conference battle with State College of Florida.  They were Wednesday and survived a small scare, outlasting the Manatees 76-69 to sweep the season series on Sophomore Night in front of a good crowd at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

The #1 Florida SouthWestern State Men's Basketball team jumped out to a 15-5 lead and never looked back Wednesday night in Tampa, hammering Hillsborough 93-59 for their 20th straight win on the year.

The #1 Florida SouthWestern State Men’s Basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday, capturing their 19th straight win this season and their 35th straight conference win with an 84-66 victory over St. Petersburg to claim their third straight Suncoast Conference Championship and a ticket to the FCSAA State Tournament in March.  In the process, a pair of FSW guards put their names in the record books as Keon Ellis became the all-time single season scoring leader with 504 points and Jalen Finch claimed the top spot on the career assists list with 263.

Top Ranked Bucs Come From Behind For Win Over Polk

The #1 Florida SouthWestern State Men's Basketball team has done a lot during their current 18 game winning streak.  One thing they haven't had to do much is play from behind, and that is exactly what they had to do for 20 minutes Wednesday night as a determined Polk State squad came in looking to dethrone the Bucs from both the top of the Suncoast and NJCAA standings.  FSW had trouble scoring early and fell behind by as many as 10 in the first half before settling for a 33-31 deficit at the half. But the second half was a different story as they heated up in front of a big home crowd to come away with an 81-75 win to improve to 25-1 on the year.

Bucs Dominant in Blowout of SCF

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers didn't lose a single game in December, and then followed that with an undefeated January, and if they play the way they did on the road at State College of Florida on Saturday, February may well follow the same script as the 2nd ranked Bucs jumped out to a 17-4 lead and never looked back Saturday afternoon as they blew out the Manatees 94-67 on their home floor to improve to 24-1 on the year.

Bucs Tighten Defensive Screws For 15th Straight Win

The #2 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers matched their best defensive effort in a Suncoast Conference game in program history Wednesday night on the road at St. Petersburg, holding the Titans to just 53 points and 38% shooting in a 76-53 victory to improve to 22-1 on the year.

Blackjack! Bucs First in Florida to 21 Wins

The #2 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers became the first team in Florida to 21 wins this season on Saturday in Winter Haven, jumping early and never letting up on Polk State to pick up a 94-79 win and move to 21-1 overall and 4-0 in Suncoast Conference action on the season.

#2 FSW Runs Past Manatees in Key Conference Battle

Jalen Finch ran the FSW offense like a conductor runs an orchestra and Keon Ellis continued to put up big numbers as the #2 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers blew past the visiting State College of Florida Manatees 96-69 Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena to earn their 20th win of the year while remaining unbeaten in Suncoast Conference play at 3-0.

All 12 players dressed scored and De'Lazarus Keys scored a career high for the second straight game as the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers blew past the visiting Victory Rock Blue Devils 110-61 Saturday afternoon at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.

Keys/Marshall Double-Doubles Pace Bucs in Win Over Hawks

The #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got out to a solid early lead and never looked back Wednesday night on the road at Hillsborough, leading wire to wire and getting double-doubles from De'Lazarus Keys and Jermaine Marshall in a 95-77 blowout of the Hawks to improve to 18-1 on the year.

Ellis Scores School Record 41 to Lead FSW Over St. Pete

A season ago as a freshman, Keon Ellis laid in the shadows of a pair of First Team All-Conference guards in Charles Manning Jr. and Maddox Daniels.  As a sophomore this season, he has become the Bucs undisputed leader and Saturday in #3 Florida SouthWestern's Suncoast Conference opener against St. Petersburg, that was on full display as he exploded for a school record 41 points to lead the Bucs over the Titans 92-77 to give FSW their 27th straight conference victory.

#3 FSW Dominates Second Half Opener

The #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were in a giving mood on Saturday as they opened up the second half of their 2019-2020 schedule with a date with the Oakton Owls in the FSW Holiday Classic at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.  The Bucs racked up 20 assists, their most in seven games, in a 99-65 route of the Owls to improve to 15-1 on the year.

Bucs Cruise Into the Break 14-1

Earning a pair of wins at the Florida Juco Shootout over the weekend, the #5 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers will enjoy a 14-1 record heading into the holiday break.  Saturday FSW had little trouble in a 76-52 win over Palm Beach as four scored in double figures and their defense held the Panthers to just 33% shooting in the contest.  Sunday was a different story as the Bucs had to come from behind in the final minute against Chipola, nailing three big free throws and coming up with two clutch steals to sneak past the Indians 68-66.

Ellis, Marshall Enter the Record Books as Bucs Down Miami Dade

Keon Ellis and Jermaine Marshall etched their names in the Florida SouthWestern State record books Tuesday night as 5th ranked Buccaneers outlasted Miami Dade 82-71 to improve to 12-1 on the year.  Ellis tied a school record with eight three pointers and also equaled the all-time mark for points against an NJCAA opponent with 36 while Marshall grabbed a program record 17 boards for FSW in the win.

Seven in Double Figures as #7 FSW Routes Combine

The #7 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers blew past the century mark for the third time this season Friday night as seven different players scored in double figures in a 112-74 blowout of visiting Combine Academy to improve to 11-1 on the year.

Once again the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were well represented in the JucoRecruiting.com Top 100 Player Rankings released on Wednesday as Keon Ellis (9), Berrick JeanLouis (31), and Simeon Kirkland (68) all found their way inside the top 70 while Jalen Finch was tabbed just outside the top 100 as an Honorable Mention selection.

FSW Kicks Off December with Decisive Win

Berrick JeanLouis had a career high 25 for #6 Florida SouthWestern State and the Buccaneers had a season high 11 blocked shots as FSW blew past visiting ASA Miami 91-60 Sunday afternoon in Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers to improve to 10-1 on the year.

Snow Freezes FSW in Overtime

For the first time in history, there was a heavy dose of snow in Southwest Florida.  But it wasn’t the fluffy white kind, it was the blue and orange Snow Badgers basketball team in town to take on the 2nd ranked Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers.  While the Bucs led for over 33 minutes of the action and the Badgers just 8, it was a pair of key buckets by Snow that was enough to give the visitors from Utah an 81-79 upset victory in overtime over FSW, sending the Bucs to their first loss of the 2019-2020 season.

#2 FSW Rebounds With Big Win

After suffering their first loss of the 2019-2020 season on Friday night in overtime against Snow, the #2 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers rebounded in a big way on Saturday, taking out their frustrations with a 111-70 win over visiting Denmark Tech to improve to 8-1 on the year.

Second Half Surge Powers #3 FSW to Win

The age old saying ‘it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish’ came to fruition for the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers on Saturday as the Bucs trailed most of the first half in what on paper should have been a lopsided affair in their favor against Wake Tech, but used a 50 point second half to eventually run away with an 89-58 win to improve to 7-0 on the year.

The #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers knocked off their second straight unbeaten opponent on Friday night in Georgia, building a big lead before hanging on late to down Triton 88-83 in a battle of 30 win teams from a season ago.

Dunk City! Bucs Light Up Miami Dade in High Flying Affair

The term Dunk City may have been coined in Fort Myers six years ago, but it was on full display Tuesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena as the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers took on the Miami Dade Sharks in a battle of early season unbeatens.  FSW came out hot and never cooled down, putting on a show for their home crowd by throwing down 18 dunks on the night and shooting 62% as a team as they blew past the Sharks 116-88 to move to 5-0 on the year.

Bucs Topple Eastern in Battle of NJCAA Titans

In a rarely seen opening weekend top five matchup, the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers hosted the #5 Eastern Florida State Titans Saturday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena. After a slow start, the Bucs took control late in the first half and never looked back, bringing home a 72-60 victory that could hold major implications later this season.

New Look, Same Results For #3 Bucs on Opening Night

There were some new faces on the court Friday night as the #3 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers kicked off their 2019-2020 season against the Broward Seahawks. Afterall, FSW had to replace seven sophomores, five of those Division I signees, and three of them Power 5 competitors.  But through the changes, one thing remained, FSW’s dominance of opening night as the Bucs handled the visiting Seahawks 80-63 in front of a crowd of more than 1,000 to claim their fourth win to begin a season in their fourth season of action.
