RANGER, Texas- Playing in a hostile environment in their first road game of the 2025-2026 season, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers came up just short on Thursday, dropping an 83-78 decision to Ranger on Black Out Night in Central Texas.
The Bucs were locked in on defense early on, holding the Rangers to just six points through the first six minutes of the contest as they opened the game with a 10-6 advantage. The pace picked up as the sweat started to flow and midway through the first the Bucs and Rangers found themselves deadlocked at 16. Shooting in front of a packed Ranger student section, the Bucs went on a 7-0 run moments later to take a 25-18 lead, but couldn't slow down the Rangers in the final five minutes of the half as Ranger got a bucket to fall at the first half horn to take a 38-36 lead into the locker rooms at the break.
It was back and forth action early in the second as the Bucs and Rangers traded baskets before an alley oop from Kenyon Giles to Roman Cummings put FSW up five, 53-48 with 13:00 to go in the contest. Ranger put together a 7-0 run midway through the period to level the score at 66 and after the Rangers retook a lead late, Amont'e Allen-Johnson drilled a triple from the top of the key to tie the game back up at 74 with 90 seconds remaining in regulation. Unfortunately for the Bucs it was all Ranger from there as the Rangers close the game on a 9-3 burst to win it 83-77 and send the Bucs home with a hard fought loss after a spirited contest.
Allen-Johnson led the Bucs with 19 in the loss while Mason Blazer scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half.
FSW drops to 1-1 on the year with the loss while Ranger improves to 3-2.
The Bucs will be right back at it on Friday when they take on Weatherford in the back end of their doubleheader in a 4 PM (ET) start in Ranger.
