Bucs Cruise to Fifth Straight Win
The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers flirted with the century mark Wednesday night, blowing past the Polk State Eagles 95-81 for their fifth consecutive win while remaining unbeaten in Citrus Conference action.
WINTER HAVEN, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers flirted with the century mark Wednesday night, blowing past the Polk State Eagles 95-81 for their fifth consecutive win while remaining unbeaten in Citrus Conference action.
Both teams came out hot offensively and traded baskets to the midway point of the first half when Mason Blazer knocked down a three from the top of the key to give FSW a 25-22 lead. The up and down action continued in the final 10 minutes of the half until FSW eventually took a 47-44 advantage into the locker rooms at the break. Amont'e Allen-Johnson and Tyler Bey paced the Bucs in the first 20 minutes, combining for 24 of FSW's 47 points in the half.
The game remained close early in the second until an 11-2 run for the Bucs gave them their first double digit lead of the contest. They continued to push, extending their advantage all the way out to 86-71 with 5:00 to go before finishing the Eagles off 95-81.
The Bucs were locked in from all three areas in the win, shooting 48% from the field, 52% from the three point line, and 91% from the free throw stripe in the contest.
All five FSW starters scored in double figures with Lamont Hartfield leading the way with 19 and Bey finishing with 17.
The Bucs and Eagles continued heading in opposite directions as FSW wins their fifth straight game to improve to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in Citrus Conference play while Polk drops their eighth straight to fall to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in league action.
The Bucs will be back home in Suncoast Arena on Saturday as they host Hillsborough at 4:00 PM on Community Day in the Arena with a number of promotions and prizes highlighting the local area.
