MIAMI , Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers shot a blistering 45% from the three point line and outrebounded the Miami Dade Sharks by 21 to lead the way in an 82-74 road win Wednesday night in Miami.
The Bucs got off to a bit of a slow start, falling behind 7-2 to begin the game and they were down 19-14 at the midway point of the first half. The Bucs deficit continued to grow, reaching double digits with 4:05 to go in the half as they trailed the Sharks 31-20. Back to back threes from Trey Fogle got the Bucs back in it and moments later Mason Blazer drilled a three to tie the game at 31. A offensive rebound and putback from Stephen Okoro would complete a 15-2 run for the Bucs to close the half and put FSW up 35-33 as the teams went to the locker rooms at the break.
It took the Bucs 2:31 to find their first field goal in the second as Miami Dade retook the lead, but a three from the corner from Lamont Hartfield put FSW back in front once again at 45-43. The Bucs stretched their lead to eight as Okoro once again ripped down an offensive rebound and finished at the rim and they held that advantage to the under 8:00 media timeout as they continued to lead it 66-59. The Sharks made things interesting, getting back to within three, but Amont'e Allen-Johnson flew past the Miami Dade defense for a bucket in the paint to give the Bucs some breathing room once again at 71-66. Blazer put a nail in it for the Bucs with a three from the wing with 1:30 to go and after a parade to the free throw line late, the Bucs went on to win it 82-74.
Okoro was huge on the inside for the Bucs in the win, posting a double-double with 11 points and a program single game record tying 18 rebounds while Blazer led all scorers with 20 points in the victory.
The Bucs win their third straight to remain in first place in the Citrus Conference standings at 15-5 overall and 5-1 in league play. Miami Dade falls to 12-8 overall and levels their conference record at 3-3.
