Bucs Pull Away Late to Top Saints

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers withstood an early barrage of three pointers from the Santa Fe Saints Saturday afternoon in Gainesville to come away with a 79-64 win to remain in first place in the Citrus Conference standings.
Things were even early on as the Bucs and Saints found themselves deadlocked midway through the first half at 19. FSW went on a run to take an eight point lead, but the Saints roared back thanks to some hot shooting from the outside, cutting the Bucs lead to just three at the half, 45-42.
On the backs of Lamont Hartfield and Kenyon Giles, the Bucs gave themselves some distance from the Saints early in the second, stretching their lead to double digits with 11:00 to go. The Bucs slowly built onto their lead, getting defensive stops and timely buckets to polish off Santa Fe late 79-64 for their fourth consecutive victory.
Hartfield nailed seven three pointers for the Bucs, just one off the program single game record, to finish with 21 points to lead the way for FSW while Giles added 17 in the win. No other statistics were available.
FSW takes over sole possession of first place in the Citrus Conference standings with the win at 6-1 while bumping their overall record to 16-5 on the year. Santa Fe falls to 14-5 overall and 3-3 in league play in the defeat.
The Bucs get a well deserved rest from here as after a busy start to conference play, they will have the week off before taking the court again on Saturday, January 31st when they host Indian River at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in a 2 PM tip against the Pioneers.
