The #2 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers fell behind early but roared back for a 4-2 win over the visiting Salt Lake Bruins Friday night under the lights at Lee Health Sports Complex, moving to 5-0 in Paradise Cove Classic action and 11-2 on the 2026 season.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- The #2 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers fell behind early but roared back for a 4-2 win over the visiting Salt Lake Bruins Friday night under the lights at Lee Health Sports Complex, moving to 5-0 in Paradise Cove Classic action and 11-2 on the 2026 season.
The Bucs were forced to play from behind early on as Salt Lake took advantage of a pair of free passes in the top half of the 1st to take a 2-0 lead after a half inning of play.
It remained a 2-0 game to the 3rd when the Bucs answered back, taking advantage of two walks of their own to load the bases before a mishandled ground ball by the Bruins allowed two runs to score to tie the score up at 2 at the end of three.
In out of the Bucs bullpen, Zoe Yzaguirre mowed Salt Lake down in the top of the 4th and her offense kept momentum on the Bucs side in the bottom half of the frame, as Noelani Livingstone used her speed to beat out a two out infield single and in the process Lizzy Kwakernaak motored all the way around from second base to score and give FSW their first lead of the game at 3-2.
The Bucs added to their lead in the 5th as they loaded the bases with nobody out before a walk forced a run home to make it 4-2.
For a moment it looked like the Bruins were going to tie things up in the 6th as they lined a ball to left with two outs and two on, but Megan Veilleux tracked it down with a diving catch to extinguish the fire and keep the Bucs up 4-2.
Yzaguirre did the rest, working around a leadoff walk in the 7th to sit down three straight Salt Lake hitters and seal up a 4-2 win for FSW.
The Bucs were outhit 8-5 in the ballgame with Livingstone the lone FSW player with multiple hits in the game, going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Yzaguirre earned the win in the circle, throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just three hits while striking out three to improve to 5-1 on the year.
FSW improves to 11-2 on the year with the win while Salt Lake falls to 4-5.
The Bucs are back in action to wrap up the tournament on Saturday at 12:15 PM as they take on DII #3 St. Johns River.
