FORT MYERS, Fla.- Things are starting to click for the #3 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers at just the right time as the Bucs swept the visiting #10 Eastern Florida State Titans by scores of 6-0 and 5-1 to extend their lead atop the Citrus Conference standings to five games with 12 left to go in the 2026 regular season.
Game one was all about the pitchers early on as FSW's Lizzy Kwakernaak and Eastern Florida's Zoey Mills took turns putting goose eggs on the scoreboard through the first three frames in a scoreless battle to the 4th.
FSW was the first to finally break through in the 4th as Megan Veilleux ripped a two out RBI single to put the Bucs on the board and a double just inside the left field line later in the inning off of the bat of Bente Zwanenburg made it 4-0 FSW at the end of four.
The Bucs added to their lead in the 5th as Makayla Jakubuwski continued to swing a hot bat with a two run double to the gap to make it 6-0 FSW as the teams went to the 6th.
Kwakernaak finished her day in the circle in style, working a quick 1-2-3 top of the 6th before handing the ball over to Giorgiana Woods who pitched around a leadoff walk in the 7th to wrap up the shutout and give the Bucs a 6-0 win in game one.
The game featured just 10 hits, six on the FSW side and four for the Titans. Emma-Rose Payette was the lone Buc to record multiple hits, going 2-2 with a walk while Zwanenburg and Jakubuwski each drove in a pair with doubles for FSW.
Kwakernaak earned the win, improving to 7-2 on the year, spinning six scoreless frames, allowing just four hits while walking four in her first action in the circle in April.
