CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Riding a 14 game winning streak, the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers moved up a spot to #2 in the NJCAA Week 8 National Rankings on Tuesday.
The Bucs were a perfect 4-0 last week, outscoring their opponents by a combined scored of 29-1. Thursday the Bucs were nearly perfect, figuratively and literally as they allowed just one hit to St. Petersburg in a doubleheader sweep. In a 10-0 game one win, Charlotte Graham made program history, firing her second perfect game of the year, retiring all 18 hitters she faced with 11 strikeouts. In game two Alexandra Solo was nearly as good, allowing just one single in an 8-0 shutout victory to compete the sweep. Saturday it was more of the same as the Bucs picked up another shutout, this time 6-0 over #10 Eastern Florida in game one of their doubleheader before Graham and the Bucs defeated the Titans 5-1 in game two for their 14th straight win.
Northeast Alabama continued their reign on top of the poll while FSW checked in at #2 with a 39-5 record. Northwest Florida flip flopped spots with the Bucs as they dropped to #3 while Temple and Santa Fe rounded out the top five. Other FCSAA squads in the rankings included #10 Indian River, #12 Eastern Florida, #15 Miami Dade, #18 Seminole State, #20 Daytona State, and #21 Gulf Coast State.
The Bucs are back in action at home on Saturday when they host Polk State in a Citrus Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
