CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers have taken over as the #1 team in the NJCAA National Rankings released on Monday after winning two more games to run their season long win streak to 16 games on Saturday.
The Bucs continued their climb to the top spot on the podium with a doubleheader sweep of Polk State on Saturday to improve to 41-5 on the year. The Bucs needed some theatrics in game one of the twinbill as they trailed the entire way until the final pitch of the game that Makayla Jakubuwski ripped to right for a two run walk off single to give FSW a 4-3 win. In game two they did things a little bit easier, jumping ahead early and handling the Eagles the rest of the way in an 8-1 victory to complete the sweep.
The Bucs take over on top of a shuffled up week nine rankings. Northwest Florida moved up a spot as well to #2 while Northeast Alabama dropped two to #3. Temple and McLennan rounded out the top five. Over ¼ of the Top 25 came from the Citrus Conference with FSW at #1, Santa Fe at #6, Indian River and Eastern Florida back to back at #10 and #11, Miami Dade at #15, Seminole State at #17, and Daytona State at #21.
The Bucs have now been ranked #1 in the country in five of the past six years and for the 36th time in program history.
FSW will play four straight against Top 10 ranked competition this week as they take on #10 Indian River Tuesday at Buccaneers Park in Fort Myers beginning at 2 PM before making the trip North to play #6 Santa Fe in Gainesville on Saturday.
