In nearly a mirror opposite of their first game at the NJCAA National Tournament, the #17 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers’ furious late game comeback fell just short Tuesday afternoon against #1 Wabash Valley, as a last second shot missed its mark and the Bucs lost 81-78 to see their season commence with a 9th place finish in their first trip to the Big Dance.

Bucs Ride Roller Coaster to First National Tournament Win

The #17 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers went on a wild ride in their first NJCAA National Tournament game in program history on Monday, starting hot and going up by as many as 19 before seeing that lead evaporate and the game eventually go to overtime where they came out on top of a 78-75 decision over #16 Cochise to advance to the second round of the tournament on Tuesday.

The #9 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers got off to a hot start and never looked back Wednesday afternoon in the FCSAA/Region VIII Tournament Quarterfinals, dispatching of Broward 99-74 to advance to the tournament final four on Friday.

As expected, the #9 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers came away from the Suncoast Conference awards on Tuesday with a haul as Tina Stephens was named Player of the Year, Dr. Kristie Ward was named Coach of the Year, and four other Bucs were named to the All-Conference teams.

For the first time in program history, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers finished their Suncoast Conference schedule unbeaten on Saturday afternoon at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.  FSW wrapped up their 9-0 conference campaign with an 85-63 win over visiting Eastern Florida State, their 24th consecutive win to end the regular season 28-2.

Five in Double Figures as #11 FSW Blows Past IMG

For the first time in six weeks the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers had a new number next to their name as they took the court as the #11 ranked team in the NJCAA on Wednesday.  That seemed to have little effect on their play on the floor as five players scored in double figures and FSW topped the 100 point mark for the 12th time this year in a 110-63 blowout of IMG to improve to 27-2 on the year.

Technically the #13 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers had the 2019 Suncoast Conference Championship wrapped up Wednesday night after a win over Eastern Florida State on the road, but Head Coach Kristie Ward wanted to make sure there was no sharing before she let the team in on the news.  Saturday afternoon, the Bucs did just that, using a big second half to beat St. Petersburg 91-66, clinching their second straight outright Suncoast Conference title with two games still left to go in the conference season.

It didn’t come easy, but the #13 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers picked up their 20th straight win Wednesday night on the road at Eastern Florida State, holding off a late charge by the Titans to win 92-86 and move one game closer to an outright Suncoast Conference title.

Shondell Vickers posted her fifth double-double in the past six games and Tina Stephens scored 25 points as #13 Florida SouthWestern State did just enough to get by St. Petersburg 76-68 at home in Suncoast Credit Union Arena on Wednesday night in the Buccaneers 18th straight win on the season.

Second Half Surge Pushes #13 FSW to 17th Straight Win

For the first time in nearly a month, the #13 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers found themselves in a tight game at the half Saturday afternoon at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.  In the midst of a 16 game winning streak and up just 43-41 against visiting Eastern Florida State, the Bucs stepped on the gas, outscoring the Titans 38-20 in the final 20 minutes to run away with an 81-61 victory to improve to 20-2 on the year.

FSW Captures Win Number 20

Most college basketball teams are thrilled if they are able to reach 20 wins in any particular season.  The Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball team accomplished that Wednesday with a 104-82 victory over IMG Academy, and they still have a third of their season remaining on the schedule at 20-2.

FSW Sets Program Record With Fourth Straight 100 Point Effort

The #18 FSW Buccaneers made program history Friday night, reaching the 100 point mark for the fourth straight game in a 100-85 win over visiting Miami Dade.  Tina Stephens led the Bucs with a game high 27 points and 11 rebounds while Nairimar Vargas-Reyes added 17 off the FSW bench to push the Bucs the 9-2 on the year.

Defensive Effort Earns Bucs 10th Win of the Season

After getting the job done on the offensive end in their past four games, the #18 FSW Buccaneers went with a little different strategy on Saturday, holding visiting Daytona State to just 27% shooting while forcing 25 turnovers on the defensive end to come away with a 76-47 win to improve to 10-2 on the year.
