Bio

Redshirt (2018-19): Laureano spent the Spring of 2019 with the Bucs as a redshirt.  

High School: Laureano joins Nairimar Vargas-Reyes as one of two Puerto Ricans on the FSW roster after prepping at John A. Ferguson High School in Miami.  During her final season at Ferguson, Laureano averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds per game, earning All-Dade County First Team honors. 

Personal: Born November 4, 2000, Laureano is the daughter of Omayra Calderon. She has two brothers, Kenneth (15) and Jean (10).

Laureano Named to NJCAA All-Star Team

The NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced on Tuesday that Florida SouthWestern guard Sheslanie Laureano has been named a 2020 NJCAA Women’s Basketball All-Star.

Today we take a look at part two of our four part series on the Florida SouthWestern State Teams of the Decade as we highlight the Buccaneer Women’s Basketball program.  The Bucs wrapped up their fourth season as the decade turned in 2020.  In those four seasons, the Bucs won three Suncoast Conference Championships, going 34-5 in conference play, and reached their first two NJCAA National Tournaments in program history.

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers didn’t have to look far for their new Head Women’s Basketball Coach as Wednesday, FSW Athletic Director George Sanders announced that Dr. Jerald Ellis, a four year assistant with the Bucs, would take over as the Interim Head Coach for the 2020-2021 season.

The 2019-2020 season was full of excitement for the Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball team.  The squad played its toughest schedule in its fourth year of competition, while winning its third straight Suncoast Conference Championship and earning its second straight bid to the NJCAA National Tournament.

In a first round battle of top 15 ranked teams, the #12 Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball team saw their Region VIII Tournament hopes come to an end on Thursday, dropping a 73-64 decision to #6 Gulf Coast State in the quarterfinal round.  The Bucs will now place their season in the hands of the NJCAA at-large committee to determine whether they have done enough at 24-7 to earn their second straight trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.  That decision will be made Monday at 11:30 AM during the NJCAA Selection Show which will be aired live on the videoboards at Suncoast Credit Union Arena and is open to the public.

Five Bucs Named All-Conference, Downs Player of the Year, Ward-Cangelosi Coach of the Year

As expected, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Women’s Basketball team fared quite well during the Suncoast Conference All-Conference voting on Monday as five players from the Bucs conference championship squad were named to the All-Conference teams while Za’Nautica Downs was named the Player of the Year and Head Coach Kristie Ward-Cangelosi was named the conference’s Coach of the Year.

Bucs Stunned in Regular Season Finale

The #9 Florida SouthWestern State Women’s Basketball team had a pair of streaks snapped on Saturday as they lost their first Suncoast Conference game in 715 days and saw their 12 game winning streak this season come to an end as they were stunned 81-69 by #22 Eastern Florida on the road to close out the 2020 regular season.

#9 FSW Hits Century Mark in Sophomore Night Win

The #9 Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball team sent their sophomores out in style Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, hitting the century mark for the fifth time this season, in a 100-33 win over visiting Impact Academy in the Bucs final home game of 2020.

Downs Eclipses 1,000 Point Mark in Bucs Win

Za'Nautica Downs became just the second player in Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball history to reach the 1,000 career point mark on Wednesday, scoring a team high 16 as the Buccaneers blew past Hillsborough 89-51 to remain unbeaten in Suncoast Conference play.

Needing one win in their final three Suncoast Conference games to claim their third straight outright conference title, the #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Women’s Basketball team wasted little time on Saturday, jumping out to a big early lead before coasting to a 92-75 win over visiting St. Petersburg to take their spot on the podium for the third time in three seasons.

#14 FSW Wins Thriller Over #22 Eastern Florida

In one of the top NJCAA Women's Basketball matchups of the night, the #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers outlasted the #22 Eastern Florida State Titans 77-76 Wednesday night at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.

Bucs Win 20th in Blowout of Conqs

The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers picked up their 20th win of the season Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, blowing away the visiting Florida National Conquistadors 94-40.

FSW Erases Big Second Half Deficit For Conference Road Win

The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers looked like they were in big trouble Wednesday night on the road at St. Petersburg as they faced their largest deficit of the 2019-2020 season, trailing the Titans by 17 with just over 16 minutes left in the game.  But the Bucs didn't quit on this night, outscoring St. Pete 17-2 to close the third quarter before forcing overtime and coming out on top of an 88-86 nailbiter in the extra period for their sixth straight victory.

Bucs Outduel Titans in Top 25 Battle

The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers came from eight down at the half Saturday afternoon to defeat #24 Eastern Florida State 93-86 in a key Suncoast Conference road battle to close the first round of conference play.

Bucs Bang the Boards For Win Over Daytona

If you just looked at the shooting percentage numbers from Saturday's Florida SouthWestern vs. Daytona State Women's Basketball game, you might have thought that it was a nip and tuck contest late in the game, as the Buccaneers shot 40.4% and the Falcons 40.6% in the matinee affair.  However, a dominating performance on the glass allowed #15 FSW to get off 25 more shots than the Falcons and they took advantage, putting up a 56 point second half to earn their 15th win of the season in a 94-78 victory.

Downs Erupts For School Record 41 in Bucs Route

Za'Nautica Downs put on a show Wednesday night on the road at Hillsborough, shattering the FSW single game record with 41 points as the 15th ranked Bucs hit the century mark in a 100-67 win to improve to 2-0 in Suncoast Conference play.

FSW Drops Top 15 Battle with Chipola

For the fourth time this season the #13 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers opposed a top 10 ranked opponent Sunday afternoon in Suncoast Credit Union Arena as they took on the #6 Chipola Indians in non-conference action.  After the first 20 minutes of action, the two were deadlocked at 32, but the Bucs struggled in the third quarter and it eventually ended up being their undoing as Chipola came away with a 69-63 to snap FSW's eight game winning streak.

Bucs Survive Late Scare to Win Eighth Straight

The #13 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers didn't make things easy on themselves Saturday night in their second half opener against the visiting Santa Fe Saints, taking a 23 point lead before having to come from behind late in the second half for a 72-67 win to earn their eighth straight win to improve to 12-4 on the year.

Defense Propels Bucs to Seventh Straight Win

While the usually high powered Florida SouthWestern State offense couldn't find its rhythm Wednesday night in the Buccaneers' first half finale, their defense did, holding the opposing Broward Seahawks to just 31% shooting while forcing 22 turnovers to come away with their seventh straight victory in a 72-56 triumph to send them to the break 11-4 on the year.

#13 FSW Races Past Miami Dade For Season Sweep

Za'Nautica Downs flirted with a triple-double and four other Bucs reached double figures in scoring as the #13 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers blew past the visiting Miami Dade Sharks 100-72 to earn their tenth win of the 2019-2020 season Saturday afternoon at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.

Bucs Roll in Return Home

After watching their Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers open their 2019-2020 season at home in early November, Bucs fans had to get reacquainted with this year's roster Friday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena as FSW returned from a six week absence from Fort Myers to take on Broward. The 13th ranked Bucs got off to a slow start, but quickly picked things up and never looked back from there, running away with a 91-50 win to improve to 9-4 on the year.

Big Third Quarter Boosts Bucs to Fourth Straight Win

For the first time this season, the #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers faced a halftime deficit Saturday night against #21 Pensacola State in the Florida Juco Shootout.  It didn’t phase the Bucs however as they stormed out of the gates in the second half by scoring the first nine points, retaking the lead and never looking back as they knocked off the Pirates 61-54 for their fourth consecutive victory.

#14 FSW Opens Shootout With Victory

The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers led wire to wire Friday afternoon in their opening game of the 2019 Florida Juco Shootout hosted by Northwest Florida State College.  The Bucs jumped in front of Florida State College at Jacksonville right away and never let off the gas, running away with their third straight win in a 78-50 victory.

#14 FSW Survives Late Scare at Miami Dade

The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers led wire to wire Wednesday night on the road at Miami Dade, but the game was not without drama as they saw a 24 point lead shrink to 1 before hanging on late to win 64-60 to improve to 6-4 on the year.

The #15 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers bounced back from their first back to back losses of the 2019-2020 season with a 74-51 win over ASA Miami on the road Tuesday night to improve to 5-4 on the year.

Bucs Finish Fourth at WNIT

For the fifth time in eight early season games the #9 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers opposed a top 25 foe Saturday in the 3rd place game at the WNIT in Midland, Texas as they battled the 13th ranked hosts, the Midland Lady Chaparrals.  The Bucs led most of the first half and had a 13 point advantage in the second half, but again couldn’t hold on late, falling 81-77 to settle for a 4th place finish at the showcase event.

Bucs Fall Late in Top 10 Battle with Trinity Valley

The #9 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers went toe to toe with the program with more National Championships than any other program in the country, #3 Trinity Valley, Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the WNIT Tournament in Midland, Texas. However, despite leading most of the game and into the closing moments of the contest, the Bucs couldn’t hold on, dropping a 66-59 decision to the Cardinals and will are now forced to settle for the tournament’s third place game Saturday night against the host #13 Midland Chaparrals.

#9 Bucs Blowout Hill in WNIT Opener

The #9 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were the new kids on the block Thursday at the 2019 Women’s National Invitational Tournament in Midland, Texas as they took on the 7-0 Hill Rebels. The Bucs, in just their fourth year of existence, were participating in the 10th annual tournament for the first time with the likes of perennial national powers Trinity Valley, Seward County, Salt Lake, and Midland. It didn’t take long for FSW to let the rest of the field know they belonged though as the Bucs raced out to a 24-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back, handing the Rebels their first loss of the season with a 75-54 blowout to advance to the tournament semifinals on Friday.

Bucs Thump #21 Georgia Highlands, Drop Another Heartbreaker to #1 Gulf Coast

The #8 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers continued their challenging early season schedule this weekend as they took part in the Visit Panama City Classic Tournament in the Florida Panhandle. The Bucs came out like gangbusters on Friday, putting it to #21 Georgia Highlands to the tune of a 97-68 victory to advance to the tournament championship game. Saturday they got what they wanted, a rematch against #1 ranked Gulf Coast State and in a near mirror image of their contest a week ago against the Commodores, FSW controlled the pace most of the game before falling late 64-62 to drop to 2-2 on the year.

Bucs Come Up Just Short Against Top Ranked Gulf Coast

The #8 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were the best team on the floor for nearly all of the 40 minutes of regulation in their top 10 matchup with the #1 ranked and defending National Champion Gulf Coast State Commodores Saturday afternoon in Suncoast Credit Union Arena. The Bucs led for 37:30 of regulation and were tied for a total of 2:30, but a late desperation three for Gulf Coast banked in to send the game to overtime where the Commodores dominated, outscoring FSW 16-8 in the extra period to capture a 97-89 victory.

FSW Tops Century Mark in Season Opening Win

A year ago the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers topped the 100 point mark 12 different times in route to a program record 30 win campaign.  Friday night at Suncoast Credit Union Arena, they notched their first 100 point effort of the 2019-2020 season, blowing away visiting Central Florida 107-60 in the two teams’ season openers.
