Late Defense Leads Bucs to Road Win
The #12 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers leaned on their defense late on Saturday to lock down a 60-49 road win at Palm Beach State to improve to 2-1 on the early season.
LAKE WORTH, Fla.- The #12 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers leaned on their defense late on Saturday to lock down a 60-49 road win at Palm Beach State to improve to 2-1 on the early season.
Things were competitive right off the bat as the Bucs and Panthers traded buckets through the first 10 minutes with Palm Beach taking a 14-13 lead at the end of one.
The Bucs got things going a little bit more in the second, using the inside/out combo of Destinie Gordon and Elina Briede to take a 29-27 lead into the break at half.
The game remained close in the third, but a pair of late buckets from Chelsea Bishop extended the FSW lead to 47-41 at the end of three.
Taking a six point lead into the fourth, the Bucs leaned on their defense in the final 10 minutes, holding Palm Beach to just eight fourth quarter points to nail down a 60-49 win.
The Bucs shot 45% from the field in the victory, getting 16 from Gordon, 12 from Briede, and 11 from Bishop in the win.
FSW improves to 2-1 on the season with the win while Palm Beach falls to 1-2.
The Bucs play their only home games in the month of November next weekend when they host Western Wyoming Friday and defending National Champions Northwest Florida State Saturday in Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
