PENSACOLA, Fla.- The #19 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers made their long trip to Pensacola worth it on Friday, taking an early lead and holding it throughout in a 73-62 win over Bishop State to improve to 4-2 on the year.
It took a little bit for both teams to get it going in the first quarter as a bucket from Arielle Marc midway through the period put FSW up 8-4 and at the end of one it was FSW 14 and Bishop State 8.
Things heated up in the second as Destinie Gordon hit a pair of threes and Kiara Harris followed suit with a triple of her own to bump the Bucs lead to 24-13. The Bucs continued to click, putting up 14 points in the final 3:45 of the half to take a 38-25 lead into the locker rooms at the break.
Both teams made adjustments at the break and the pace picked up as the Bucs and Wildcats combined for 42 points with FSW extending their advantage to 60-45 as the teams headed to the fourth.
Bishop showed some life late, cutting the Bucs lead to single digits in the fourth, but FSW did enough to hold them off for a 72-62 win to improve to 4-2 on the year.
Five players scored in double figures for FSW led by Harris' 16 and a 15 point, 10 rebound double-double from Destinie Gordon.
FSW improves to 4-2 on the year while Bishop State falls to 2-5 this season.
The Bucs are back in action on Saturday when they take on the host Pensacola State Pirates in a 2 PM (ET) start from the Panhandle.
