Bucs Slam Saints in Citrus Opener
The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers picked the right time to play their best game of the 2025-2026 season on Saturday as they hammered the visiting Santa Fe Saints 91-54 in their Citrus Conference Opener with six players scoring in double figures led by Destinie Gordon who posted a big 17 point, 14 rebound double-double to push FSW to 8-5 on the year.
FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers picked the right time to play their best game of the 2025-2026 season on Saturday as they hammered the visiting Santa Fe Saints 91-54 in their Citrus Conference Opener with six players scoring in double figures led by Destinie Gordon who posted a big 17 point, 14 rebound double-double to push FSW to 8-5 on the year.
The Bucs got off to a quick start, scoring the first seven points of the contest and holding that lead to 13-6 at the first media timeout of the afternoon. A three from Rannon Suttle extended their lead to double digits and another triple from Arielle Marc would give the Bucs a 26-12 advantage at the end of one.
The Bucs hot shooting continued into the second quarter as they netted the first eight points of the period to open the lead up to 34-12 and an old fashioned three point play moments later from Chelsea Bishop made it 39-14 FSW with 3:43 to go in the half. The Saints outscored the Bucs to the half, but it was still all FSW after 20 minutes of action as they led Santa Fe 44-22 as the teams went to the locker room at the break.
Once again, it was all FSW to start the third quarter as the Bucs scored the first six of the period to take a 50-22 lead and after Marc found a streaking Delfina Cergneux on the break for two, Bishop picked off the ensuing inbounds pass and laid it in for an easy two to balloon the lead to 61-27. A Destinie Gordon offensive rebound and putback gave FSW a 40 point lead and at the end of three it was 71-34 Buccaneers.
Damia Worthy scored the first seven of the fourth for FSW to continue the onslaught and Amelia Williams slashed through the lane for two to make it 81-39 Bucs with 5:59 to go. Santa Fe had the advantage in the final five minutes, but it was far too little too late as the Bucs polished off a 91-54 final to secure the win in their 2025-2026 Conference opener.
The final stat sheet was a pretty one for the Bucs who shot 58% from the field and 44% from the three pint line while outrebounding the Saints by 12 in the win. Six players scored in double figures for the Bucs led by Gordon who chalked up a 17 point, 14 rebound double-double and Bishop who just missed a double-double of her own with 16 points and 9 boards. Worthy scored 16 off the Bucs bench while Cergneux, Marc, and Suttle all scored 10 a piece.
The Bucs improve to 8-5 on the year with the win while Santa Fe falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in Citrus Conference play.
FSW will be in action one more time before the holiday break on Wednesday when they travel up the coast to take on St. Petersburg in Citrus Conference play.
