MIAMI, Fla.- Amelia Williams poured in a career high 34 points, but it wasn't enough as the Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers lost their regular season finale 79-69 to the Miami Dade Sharks Monday night in Miami.
The Bucs got the first bucket of the game, but didn't get another until nearly midway through the first quarter as they found themselves tied with Miami Dade five minutes into the contest. FSW went in front 11-9 on a three point play from Amelia Williams, but went cold to close the quarter as Miami Dade went on an 8-1 run to take a 17-12 lead at the end of 10 minutes of action.
Miami Dade pushed their lead to double digits midway through the second and were forced to play catch up the rest of the way. Williams hit a three to make it a two possession game at 33-27 with 2:39 left in the half, but the Sharks quickly answered and pushed their lead back to 38-27 before the break.
The Bucs got out to a good start to the third quarter, getting it back to a single digit game, but once again couldn't sustain the momentum, going six minutes without a field goal as Miami Dade ballooned their lead to 55-35 with 2:48 to go in the third. The Bucs got a bucket at the buzzer, but after three the Sharks had the game well in control leading it 59-45.
FSW had their best quarter of the night in the fourth, putting up 24 points, but they couldn't slow the Sharks down to get back into it, eventually falling 79-69.
Williams had a monster game in the losing effort, going for 34 points, a career high and the most points for an FSW player in a game since Za'Nautica Downs 34 in 2020 against Daytona. Two other Bucs scored in double figures while Destinie Gordon had a team best 15 rebounds.
