Freshman (2018): Alonso played her freshman season at Laredo College in Texas where she played in 15 matches for the Palominos.  She finished the season with 244 assists which was second best on the team, putting up back to back 35+ assist performances to begin the season against Brookhaven and Mountain View. 

High School: Before coming to the US, Alonso prepped at Colegio Miranda and played her club volleyball at Jaraguá Clube Campestre and Club Athletic Paulistano.  A multi-sport athlete, Alonso also participated in Swimming, Tennis, and Soccer as a prep.  

Personal: Born May 8, 2000, Alonso is the daughter of Ailvanna Pereira Alonso and Douglas Alonso Junior.  She has a brother, Thales (21).

One year ago, Marina Alonso took a chance on the newly founded Florida SouthWestern State Volleyball program. Looking to transfer after her freshman year at Laredo, Alonso was searching for a new home and chose to sign with the Bucs, despite FSW having yet to play their first game in program history.  After a successful sophomore season with the Bucs, that choice paid off for her on Friday as Alonso became FSW's first four-year signee, inking with NAIA top 10 squad Central Methodist University.

Bucs Inaugural Volleyball Team Sets Academic Bar High

In their first semester in program history, the Florida SouthWestern State Volleyball team has set their academic standards high, as the Buccaneers’ inaugural squad achieved a 3.35 team GPA for the Fall 2019 semester, leading the way in the FSW Athletic Department and putting themselves in position for AVCA Academic honors after the Spring semester.

Bucs Finish 4th at FCSAA State Tournament

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers saw their inaugural 2019 season come to a close this weekend, but not before making some noise and finishing fourth at the FCSAA State Tournament in Jacksonville. After splitting a pair of matches on the opening day of the eight team tournament, the Bucs pulled off the upset of the weekend with a 3-2 win over #14 Central Florida on Saturday before falling for the second time in as many days to #13 Hillsborough to draw their first campaign to an end.

Bucs Sweep Regular Season Finale, Await At-Large Call

The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers closed out their first regular season in program history in style on Tuesday in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, sweeping State College of Florida 3-0 for their fifth win in their past six matches.  The Bucs now await a decision from the state’s volleyball committee as to whether they have done enough to earn one of the two at-large bids for the State Tournament, or if Tuesday was the final time they would take the court in 2019.

Mendes/Leweling's Big Nights Not Enough For Bucs Against 10th Ranked Hawks

If you just looked at Amanda Mendes and Anna Leweling’s final stat lines from Florida SouthWestern’s Suncoast Conference match Thursday at home against #10 Hillsborough, you would think that the Bucs would have had a pretty good chance to win.  After all, the two freshmen combined for 28 kills and a .350 hitting percentage in just three sets against the Lady Hawks.  Unfortunately, the rest of the FSW hitters combined for only 13 kills and a .041 hitting mark as the Bucs dropped a pair of sets 25-23 and the other 25-20 to drop to 8-6 overall and 0-2 to start their first Suncoast Conference campaign.
