FORT MYERS, Fla.- They say lightning never strikes the same place twice. That may be true, but in early February, the stars aligned perfectly twice in three days for Florida SouthWestern's Noah Heisler and the Bucs' sophomore took advantage, bringing us to our #5 moment on our countdown of the Top 10 moments of the FSW Athletics year- Heisler's back to back extra innings walk-offs.
Leading 5-3 heading into the 9th inning under the lights at City of Palms Park in Downtown Fort Myers, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers looked like they had victory in their grasp as they looked to close out the Broward Seahawks in early non-conference action. The visitors had different ideas though, scoring a pair in the top of the frame to send the game to extra innings. Robert Wegielnik put up a zero for the Bucs in the top half of the 10th which gave the Purple and Aqua a chance to win it in the bottom half of the frame. Kalvin Alexander singled with one out to put the winning run on base and Matthew Corpas was hit by a pitch to move him into scoring position. That gave Noah Heisler the chance to be the hero and he took advantage, pulling a single through the left side of the infield to bring Alexander home and give the Bucs a 6-5 walk off win in 10.
Two days and 450 miles later, as if out of a storybook, Heisler got the chance again. With the Bucs taking on Walters State in a battle of NJCAA top 20 ranked teams, FSW again found themselves in extra innings, once again tied at 5-5. The eerie similarities continued as the winning run was in scoring position for Heisler with one out in the inning for the second straight game. And once again, Heisler was the hero, finding a hole through the drawn in Senator infield to drive home the winning run, to give the Bucs their second straight 6-5 walk off win in extras.
