MIAMI, Fla.- The Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers ran their winning streak to five on Saturday in Miami, taking an early lead and never looking back in a 95-50 blowout of Tennessee Valley Prep on day two of the Jim Cox Classic at Miami Dade.
The Bucs came out firing, getting early threes from Mason Blazer and Abdoulaye Konate to stake them out to an 8-4 lead to begin the ballgame. The Defenders kept it a game until the 13:00 mark of the first when a 14-1 run by FSW blew it open to a 30-17 Bucs advantage with 9:00 remaining in the period. The Bucs continued to pour it on from there as triples from Lamont Hartfield and Kenyon Giles extended the lead to 42-22 before a late lay in from Jeremy Innocent ballooned the lead to 57-24 at the halftime break.
The Bucs made it a 40 point game as Hartfield picked off a pass and found Roman Cummings on the break and Sean Gomez scored at the midway point of the second to give FSW an 82-34 lead with 10:00 to go in the contest. Neither team was particularly sharp to close out the ballgame, but the Bucs didn't need to be with the game well in hand as they finished off a 95-50 win for their second victory in as many days.
FSW had their way in every phase of the game, shooting 49% from the field and 38% from three while outrebounding the Defenders 50-32 on the afternoon. Five Bucs scored in double figures led by Blazer with 18 and Giles with 17.
The win is the fifth straight for FSW who improves to 6-1 on the year while Tennessee Valley Prep drops their second straight in blowout fashion.
FSW will look to wrap up a perfect weekend in Miami with a 2 PM tip against Southern Union on Sunday.
