    Of the 75 athletes that originate from outside of the United States between Florida Gulf Coast University and Florida Southwestern State College, a good amount are stuck in Fort Myers in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

    Florida SouthWestern State sophomore and Suncoast Conference Player of the Year Za'Nautica Downs has been named a finalist for the World Exposure National Player of the Year.

    The awards kept on coming for Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Za’Nautica Downs on Tuesday as the Bucs’ leading scorer was named an FCSAA All-State selection.

    Florida SouthWestern State guard Sheslanie Laureano has been named one of eight finalists for the 2020 World Exposure Freshman of the Year award as announced by the organization on Monday. 
  • NJCAA Cancels Remainder of 2020 Winter & Spring Sport Seasons

    After careful thought and consideration, the NJCAA has decided to cancel the rest of the 2020 Athletics season due to the rapidly changing situation concerning COVID-19. The cancellation effects the Florida SouthWestern State Men’s & Women’s Basketball teams as well as the Bucs’ Baseball and Softball squads. 
  • Wright Named Finalist For Assistant Coach of the Year Award

    Florida SouthWestern State Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach Rabun Wright has been named one of four finalists for the World Exposure 2020 NJCAA Assistant Coach of the Year. 
  • FCSAA Suspends All Competitions Through March 28th
    March 12, 2020
    Due to the continued concern of COVID-19 the the FCSAA has suspended all competitions, effective immediately, through March 28th.   At that time, the organization's Council of Presidents will reaccess the situation and determine whether they feel competition between teams is safe once again.
  • April Madness? NJCAA Basketball National Tournaments Postponed Due to COVID-19

    Just three days before the scheduled start of the 2020 NJCAA National Basketball Tournaments, the NJCAA has announced that the tournaments will be postponed due to ongoing concerns about COVID-19.  The tournaments will attempt to be played beginning April 20th in Hutchinson, Kansas (Men's) and Lubbock, Texas (Women's). 
  • Bucs Headed Back to Lubbock; Draw 10 Seed For National Tournament

    For the second straight season, the Florida SouthWestern State Women’s Basketball team had to play the waiting game to see if they were headed to the NJCAA National Tournament as an at large selection, but Monday, alongside fans and fellow students at Suncoast Credit Union Arena, the Buccaneers got the call and will be packing their bags over the weekend as they were announced as the #10 seed in the 24 team tournament where they will take on Oklahoma’s Murray State in the first round of the tournament Tuesday at 5:15 PM (EST). 
  • FSW Falls to #6 Gulf Coast in Region VIII Quarters

    In a first round battle of top 15 ranked teams, the #12 Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball team saw their Region VIII Tournament hopes come to an end on Thursday, dropping a 73-64 decision to #6 Gulf Coast State in the quarterfinal round.  The Bucs will now place their season in the hands of the NJCAA at-large committee to determine whether they have done enough at 24-7 to earn their second straight trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.  That decision will be made Monday at 11:30 AM during the NJCAA Selection Show which will be aired live on the videoboards at Suncoast Credit Union Arena and is open to the public.  
  • FCSAA State Tournament On Tap For FSW Basketball Teams

    The Florida SouthWestern State Basketball teams have arrived in Niceville and are set for the 2020 FCSAA State Tournament which begins Wednesday, March 4th for the FSW Men and Thursday, March 5th for the Buccaneer Women.  
  • Five Bucs Named All-Conference, Downs Player of the Year, Ward-Cangelosi Coach of the Year

    As expected, the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Women’s Basketball team fared quite well during the Suncoast Conference All-Conference voting on Monday as five players from the Bucs conference championship squad were named to the All-Conference teams while Za’Nautica Downs was named the Player of the Year and Head Coach Kristie Ward-Cangelosi was named the conference’s Coach of the Year.

    A 24-6 regular season record was good enough for a #12 final national ranking for the Florida SouthWestern State Women’s Basketball team on Monday as they dropped three spots in the final poll following a road loss to #22 Eastern Florida State. 
  • Bucs Stunned in Regular Season Finale

    The #9 Florida SouthWestern State Women’s Basketball team had a pair of streaks snapped on Saturday as they lost their first Suncoast Conference game in 715 days and saw their 12 game winning streak this season come to an end as they were stunned 81-69 by #22 Eastern Florida on the road to close out the 2020 regular season.

    The #9 Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball team sent their sophomores out in style Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, hitting the century mark for the fifth time this season, in a 100-33 win over visiting Impact Academy in the Bucs final home game of 2020.

    The Florida SouthWestern Women’s Basketball team’s rise in the NJCAA rankings continued on Tuesday, moving back into the top 10 for the first time since the week two poll at #9 in the organization’s release on Tuesday. 
  • Downs Eclipses 1,000 Point Mark in Bucs Win

    Za'Nautica Downs became just the second player in Florida SouthWestern State Women's Basketball history to reach the 1,000 career point mark on Wednesday, scoring a team high 16 as the Buccaneers blew past Hillsborough 89-51 to remain unbeaten in Suncoast Conference play.

    Needing one win in their final three Suncoast Conference games to claim their third straight outright conference title, the #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers Women’s Basketball team wasted little time on Saturday, jumping out to a big early lead before coasting to a 92-75 win over visiting St. Petersburg to take their spot on the podium for the third time in three seasons.

    In one of the top NJCAA Women's Basketball matchups of the night, the #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers outlasted the #22 Eastern Florida State Titans 77-76 Wednesday night at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.

    The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers picked up their 20th win of the season Wednesday night in Suncoast Credit Union Arena, blowing away the visiting Florida National Conquistadors 94-40.

    There was lots of shuffling in the NJCAA week nine Women’s Basketball rankings, but the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers were not a part of it, holding their spot at #14 for the third consecutive week in Monday’s release.
  • Second Half Explosion Leads #14 FSW to Seventh Straight Win

    For 20 minutes Saturday afternoon, the #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers struggled to find the basket, managing just 33 points against the visiting Hillsborough Hawks.  That all changed as the second half got underway as the Bucs equaled their first half production in the third quarter alone and then packed on 29 more in the fourth to blow the Hawks away 95-66 for their seventh straight victory.

  • FSW Erases Big Second Half Deficit For Conference Road Win

    The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers looked like they were in big trouble Wednesday night on the road at St. Petersburg as they faced their largest deficit of the 2019-2020 season, trailing the Titans by 17 with just over 16 minutes left in the game.  But the Bucs didn't quit on this night, outscoring St. Pete 17-2 to close the third quarter before forcing overtime and coming out on top of an 88-86 nailbiter in the extra period for their sixth straight victory.

    The Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers kept on winning last week, collecting two more victories to improve to 17-5 on the 2019-2020 season, but unfortunately for them, so did everyone else in front of them in the week nine NJCAA Top 25 Rankings as FSW remained at #14 and the top 13 teams stayed the same for the second straight week.

    The #14 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers came from eight down at the half Saturday afternoon to defeat #24 Eastern Florida State 93-86 in a key Suncoast Conference road battle to close the first round of conference play.  
  • Downs Tabbed NJCAA National Player of the Week

    One day after being named the FCSAA State Player of the Week, Florida SouthWestern State sophomore Za’Nautica Downs was rewarded by the NJCAA for her record breaking performances last week as she was tabbed the NJCAA National Player of the Week, the Bucs first since Tina Stephens in January of 2018.
